 Karen's View - July 10, 2004

Less than a month away! Hooray!

My new novel, "Ida B." will be released on August 1st., and boy, am I excited!  Early reviews have been off the hook, and all indications are that this will be my fourth book to make it on the Essence Bestseller's List!

Talking about the Essence Bestseller's List, "Using What You Got," which came out last year, once again has a presence on the Essence Bestseller's List -- taking the number 10 spot on the July 2004 list.

But back to "Ida B." . . .

For those who are wondering, it is not based on the life of my heroine, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, but rather a novel surrounding the lives of people living in the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Tower, a fictitious building in Harlem. And I'll let you in on a secret . . . the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Tower is actually based on a real building in Harlem. I've given clues in the book, so I challenge you to figure out what building it is.

Oh! The date, location and time for the Ida B. Official Launch Party has been set. I hope everyone can come out!

Where:    Club Beyond - 8th & Callowhill Streets in Philadelphia

When:    Tuesday, August 3, 2004 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Even if you're not in Philadelphia this is a Launch Party worth traveling to attend! We've averaged about 100 people at previous launch parties, but we're hoping to break records this time around. Come on out and mingle! Book club members who attend should let me know that they're there so I can give a shout out to the club. And . . . I'm thinking about having a presentation by a Spoken Word Artist this time around. What do you think?

I'll be going out on tour right after the Launch Party . . . first stop is Atlanta where I'll be participating in the National Book Conference hosted by author Curtiss Bunn. I heard it was a big hit last year, and I'm looking forward to experiencing it first-hand this year.

If you want to find out where else I'll be please visit my Tour Page.

If you're a member of a book club in one of the cities I'll be visiting, and your book club would like to host a private (or public) meeting with me, please contact Tracey at Tracey.Guest@Simonandschuster.com and let her know. Both Chicago and Cleveland have set up wonderful events for me . . . and I can't wait!

And book clubs . . . send in a pic so I can add it to my Book Club Page!

Okay, that's it for now.

Thanks for all of your love and support, and I hope to see you at on my booksignings!

Until then . . .

Oh wait, oh wait!

P. S. I've gotten some emails from people who think I shouldn't post my political views on my website. You know . . . my opinion about the Iraq War, Police Brutality, etc. Well, here's the thing . . . this page is named Karen's View. Get it? I'm not trying to force my anything down anybody's throat, just airing my views.

“The artist must elect to fight for Freedom or for Slavery.
I have made my choice, I had no alternative.
” Paul Robeson
